Travel Tech to Take on a Biking Tour

I am always happy to put together a mobile tech-kit and this one has been working particularly well on motorcycle tours and work trips for me.

  • Lightweight – Everything in 2.6kg
  • Productive – I can work for a full day if needed
  • Resilient – If something breaks
  • Good value – The total cost of this kit is about €$£ 1000.
  • Efficient – I can go two days without charging

Mobile kit details

  • Lenovo Duet Gen 9 (ARM based Chromebook 2-in1)
  • GoPro Hero 9
  • Telesin Triple battery charger
  • Google Pixel 6
  • Amazon Kindle
  • Retekess V115 FM Radio / MP3 player
  • UGREEN Aux Bluetooth Adapter
  • Elzle Power Bank 30000 mAh (Not recommended.)
  • SB Connect Pixel 6 holder and cover
  • 2 USB cables and mini adapters
  • JBL Tune 110 in-ear wired headphones

Notes: I’m in Europe. I’ve been putting together mobile kits for nearly 20 years and although there’s always room for improvement, this kit covers everything I need. It has been tested on multiple bike and business trips.

Mobile kit improvements

There are always improvements that can be made.

The power bank came with two cells missing so capacity can be improved inside the same case size.

The LTE could be a 5G stick (if you think you need that. 4G 150Mbs is always enough for me.)

The laptop is a Chromebook. Why? Because I work exclusively in a browser. ChromeOS is efficient, stable and secure but, yes, there’s no high-end video editor in this. There is, however, an Android subsystem that supports many (not all( apps, and a Linux subsystem that supports Linux editors. You can install KDEnlive, for example. This laptop is one of the most efficient laptops there is, and I’ve written a full review of the Lenovo Duet Gen 9 (2024 / 2025).

The GoPro should be changed to a DJI Osmo Action. Im no fan of GoPro but I can’t justify the upgrade at the moment.

Pixel 6 – upgrade is possible but I’m still very happy with it as a smartphone and camera.

Additional fallback – Smartphone. The 4G stick will send and receive SMS and Android on the Lenovo Chromebook will run many apps, including the sending of RCS messages through Google Messages. There’s no GPS fallback here though. A second smartphone would be needed for turn by turn navigation.
