The Viliv S5 that has been sent for review and MIDMoves SXSW duties has just cleared customs in Germany which means it’s highly likely that we’ll not only do a live MeetMobility CeBIT roundup podcast tomorrow but also a live testing and Q&A session with the brand new Viliv S5. Ben and JKK also have the Sony Vaio P so we’ll add those two into the mix. Sascha from Netbooknews.de will be around too. MeetMobility Event. CeBIT 2009

First of all, JKK, Sascha and I would like to say thank-you to all the people that made it to the MeetMobility event in Hannover and to Conics and Mobilx for contributing towards it. Thanks also to Runcore for the T-shirts and to everyone else for the demos and discussions. It was a successful evening despite some of the negative discussion around the value of CeBIT for emerging products and markets.

Secondly, a big big sorry to all those that picked up on the meeting in the forums, registered their interest and then got pushed into a waiting list. We underestimated the response from the people we’ve worked with over the past year and ran out of space very quickly. For 2010, we’ve already identified a bigger venue and promise to make sure that we reserve space for the very important members of the mobile computing community.

JKK spent some time taking a few candid video shots which he’ll put together soon but in the meantime, here are a set of images from the evening. Note the very very interesting MiFi pocketable 3G router which was unanimously voted as gadget of the evening. Expect to see this within the next 8 weeks in Europe (Mobilx are working on a resale agreement with Novatell.) For more details, check out the video at JKKMobile

Happy mobile users, deep discussion, the Mifi and a range of devices helped to make the evening focused and enjoyable.

With a big thanks to the CeBIT Mobile Enterprise Arena I’m happy and excited to announce that MeetMobility will have a home at CeBIT. Happy becuase we’ll have somewhere to work our blogs and podcasts and excited because there’s going to be a whole lot of mobile and Web2.0 activity in the area. We’ll be looking forward to meeting as many people as possible. We’re thinking about doing a few podcasts and videocasts there too.

To be honest, i’ll be happy to get out of that library-like press room at CeBIT and hope that Hall 6 becomes the de-facto center point for bloggers, web2.0 and social media types.

MeetMobility at CeBIT. 5th March ‘BeerChat’ Event.

On the 5th March at 2000hrs, JKK, Sascha and I will be going underground for our first official MeetMobility event.

We’ve booked a cellar room underneath a restaurant for the evening and we’ll be meeting with a number of people from the mobile computing industry for an informal get-together.

If you’ve already received an email, you’re already on the guest list, you’ve already got the detailed info and we look forward to seeing you there. If you haven’t received an email and you’d like to attend, send us an email (email not working) contact us with details and we’ll try and get you on the reserve list. We’d love to open it up to all-comers but we only have a small room booked.

We’ll provide the drinks but if you want to order food, an a-la-carte service is available.

If you have products or services that you’d like to show off, bring them along and set up a little demo. I’m sure everyone would love to see it. Note we’re going to try and set up a 3G hotspot and hotspot relay from the main restaurant but we can’t guarantee that it will be perfect!

If you want to make a formal 5-min presentation over the microphone, there will be a small charge of 50 Euro for a round of drinks.

‘Meet Mobility’ kicks off at CeBIT

UMPCPortal, JKKMobile and Netbooknews have been working together for over two years now. Apart from a lot of behind-the-scenes Skype and IM sessions to discuss many a mobile computing topic, we’ve been podcasting and attending shows together.

Rather than scatter our content around under different banners, we decided to create a site that we can use to pull all our joint events together.

We’ve still got a lot of work to do here but over the coming weeks we’ll get the relevant content and links in place.

We start next week at CeBIT where we’ll be doing a lot of work together to get good content out. Expect joint podcasts, news from a MeetMobility event we’ve got planned with industry members and a lot of microblogs! See the sidebars on the site for the latest microblogs and podcasts info.

If you don’t follow our websites, the theme here is mobile computing from the emerging uber-smartphone or midphone market through to some of the lighter and mobile-focused netbooks. As mobile computing and mobile internet reaches the masses, we’ll be covering it.
